Chili Chips: A Handwritten Font for Creative Projects

There I was, staring at a blank brand board, trying to figure out how to bring a warm, approachable vibe to a new café project. The client wanted something that felt personal, like it was handwritten by a friend. That’s when I stumbled on Chili Chips—a cute and simple lettered handwritten font that felt just right for the job.

Chili Chips has a soft, organic feel that brings a sense of authenticity to any design. Its letters are slightly uneven, with subtle flourishes that make it look like it was written by hand. It doesn’t have the rigid structure of a traditional script font, which makes it feel more natural and less formal. This is what I needed for a brand that wanted to feel friendly and welcoming.

One of the first things I did was test Chili Chips on a logo draft. I used it for the café’s name, paired it with a clean sans serif for the tagline, and it worked surprisingly well. The contrast between the two fonts gave the design a balanced look—Chili Chips added character, while the sans serif kept things clear and readable.

As I moved into packaging design, I found that Chili Chips really shone on product labels and menu boards. Its casual style made it perfect for chalkboard-style quotes or handwritten notes. It added a personal touch that felt genuine, like the café owner had written it themselves. That kind of authenticity can be powerful in branding—it helps build trust and connection with customers.

I also used Chili Chips on social media graphics. It looked great on Instagram posts and Facebook banners, especially when paired with bold colors and playful illustrations. The font’s personality stood out without being overwhelming, making it ideal for headlines and callouts. It helped create a cohesive visual identity across different platforms.

When working on a website header, I found that Chili Chips worked best as a display font. It was too ornate for body text, but as a headline, it added a unique flair that caught the eye. I made sure to keep the rest of the text in a more neutral typeface to maintain readability and hierarchy.

One thing I noticed about Chili Chips is that it works well as an accent font. It’s not meant for long paragraphs, but it can add a nice touch to short phrases, logos, or decorative elements. It pairs nicely with both serif and sans serif fonts, depending on the desired mood. For example, pairing it with a classic serif font can give a vintage feel, while combining it with a modern sans serif creates a fresh, contemporary look.

Testing the font before using it in a full brand system is always a good idea. I recommend trying it on different materials—like business cards, shop signs, and label stickers—to see how it looks in real-life applications. Pay attention to how it scales at different sizes and whether it maintains its clarity and charm.

Chili Chips includes a range of styles, alternates, and ligatures, which gives designers more flexibility. These features can help customize the font to fit specific design needs. It also supports multiple languages, which is a big plus if the brand has an international audience.

For commercial use, the font licensing is straightforward, which is important when working with clients. As a designer, I appreciate fonts that come with clear terms and conditions, so there are no surprises down the line.

When working on a branding project, it’s essential to consider how the font will be used across different mediums. Chili Chips is versatile enough to work in print and digital formats, making it a valuable addition to any design toolkit. Whether it’s for a café, boutique, or creative studio, it adds a personal and realistic feel that can elevate the entire brand experience.

Overall, Chili Chips is a great choice for designers looking for a friendly, approachable font that feels authentic. Its simplicity and charm make it ideal for a wide range of projects, from logos to social media graphics. If you’re working on a brand that values warmth and personality, this font is definitely worth considering.

From the first mockup to the final brand materials, Chili Chips helped bring a human touch to the design. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the most effective designs are the ones that feel real and heartfelt.
